is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at the University of Girona (UdG). He obtained his PhD in Sociology in 2007 from the University of Barcelona and was also a Visiting Graduate Student at Princeton University in 2006. Through a Catalan National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship he has worked at Crea-UB where he still is a research affiliate. He currently coordinates the Nightingale project and is a member of the Research Group in Educational and Socialcultural Policies, Programmes and Services (GRES) at the UdG.
His dissertation focused on Romani identity and social mobility. His work demonstrated the different upward mobility processes that exist among Roma with special mention of education and how these processes relate to assimilation and acculturation. At present he is working on the determinants that influence people and make them follow one of the different paths he has identified, on how ethnic networks affect the educational success of Roma and children of immigrant background, and on how different educational systems promote different means of educational inclusion or exclusion.
